Running a hand through his black, slightly oiled curls, he listens to the moans of pains and german gibberish, anger flaring. Stashing the bread in his coat, he saunters over, attempting to control his racing emotions, and clears his throat. Anna eeps, terrified that the SS caught her before she turns head, blushing. The stranger around her age smiles, his sharp yet handsome features seems unreal, leaving her speechless. Noticing her blank stare, Levi whispers in her ear, “Mind if I help?”
The groups of people follow them, the process moving faster as both Levi and Anna take out as many as they can. But there’re too many. With the final announcement, the last group leave, Anna and Levi following. With a couple steps, they notice a guard. Suddenly shaking with more fear, Anna tells them that she will distract him, and turns to tell Levi to get them somewhere safe. With the railroad car leaving, the wails seems so sad as many aren’t able to escape.
Her mother looks at her with such a fear that Anna is frozen but she gives her a small smile. She hugs her family and reassures them that she will be safe. As Anna was about to leave, Levi grabs her arm and says, “Don’t let them see you.”

They stare into each other’s eyes, her gaze suddenly on his scarred hands and Anna thanks him for the help. She walks out beside the guard and, as she was going, she hears something on the other side and the guard hear it as well. He runs in that direction and Anna feels a hand on her shoulder. She turns and sees Levi. He quickly tells her, “Hurry, they can come back any second.”
Following Levi, they end up at a more safe and deserted area. As they are walking, Anna asks Levi why he helped her with everything. Contemplating, he says,“ Because I knew something was wrong, especially with how bad they treated everyone. Then I saw you, helping. I felt the urge to help you as well.”
Levi resists the desire to complement her beauty as fear runs through him once again. His family. Turning back, he looks at her again.
“I have to go! See ya, pretty lady!”
Running, he misses the shock on her face, but his family is his first priority.
Out of breath, sweat plasters his skin, as he looks in his house. They’re all there. Even Uncle Paz. Tearing up, he hugs them all and they inform him of the upcoming deportations, that the Germans will be taking 7,000 Jewish every day for two months…
It’s too good to think that they would be able to “leave” in the deportations, before the whispers came like the wind. Whispers that cause Anna to vomit into the nearest bush.
“Did you hear? The Germans are sending the Jewish into the Treblinka camp! To be killed!”
“Killed?!”
“The Z.O.B. will help us. They have to!”
Levi catches the news and freezes. The Z.O.B? The Jewish Fighting Organization will fight against them?
Hope flashes in both Anna and Levi as they demand information from their separate news holder. Too many have been taken, it had been a month, and many have died within that time. Too many have been hurt. Too many years they had to live in here. The diseases, the torture, the disgusting streets, the starved and the begging, it’s too much. Levi and Anna want to fight. For food. For freedom. And she’s determined to, anger fueling her thoughts as she headed to the Z.O.B. headquarters. Levi feels his heart usher him to go and join but his mind stops him, the punishment for fighting… Is it worth it?
He’s too young, they won’t let him fight in the organization. He needs to fight though! To avenge the victims, to protect his people, to end Germany’s reign on the Jewish. But what will happen to his family? What would happen if he fights?
Should he fight or should he hide?
